How it works

Each share is a simple slice of the total: share = total x percentage / 100. The tool adds your three percentages and shows the running total underneath the results, so you can see at a glance whether the whole pot is allocated.

Worked example

A $10,000 bonus pool is split 50% / 30% / 20%:

• Share 1: 10,000 x 50 / 100 = $5,000.00
• Share 2: 10,000 x 30 / 100 = $3,000.00
• Share 3: 10,000 x 20 / 100 = $2,000.00
• Percentages total: 50 + 30 + 20 = 100.00%, and the shares add back to $10,000.

Normalize mode: shares that always add to 100%

The classic headache with percentage splits is that the percentages rarely add to exactly 100. Check the Normalize to 100% box and the tool rescales your shares so the full total is always distributed: $2,000 split 40 / 30 / 20 becomes $888.89 / $666.67 / $444.44, exactly $2,000 with no leftover. It also rescues over-100% splits (60 / 60 normalizes to $250 / $250 of $500) that plain calculators reject outright. The result line tells you what it normalized from, so nothing is hidden.

What if my percentages do not add up to 100%?

Two cases. If the total is over 100%, the tool stops and tells you, because you cannot hand out more than the whole. If the total is under 100%, the tool still calculates each share, and the “Percentages total” line shows you the shortfall, which is the unallocated remainder. For example, shares of 40% / 30% / 20% on $10,000 give $4,000 / $3,000 / $2,000 with a 90.00% total, leaving $1,000 unassigned.

What competing distribution calculators miss

Most percentage-split tools hard-stop at three shares and reject any total over 100%, which is exactly when you need help most: rounding 33.33 / 33.33 / 33.34, or splitting a bonus five ways instead of three. What if my percentages do not add to 100%?

What happens if I leave a share blank?

A blank share counts as 0%, so the other shares calculate normally. If you only need two shares, leave the third empty.

Why does the tool round to two decimals?

Results are shown to the nearest cent, which is the standard for money. The underlying math keeps full precision and only rounds for display.
