8Th Pay Commission Salary Calculator

Published onOctober 17, 2025 Updated onOctober 27, 2026 12:42 pm

The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted on 3 November 2025, and its recommendations will reset the salaries of over 1.1 crore central government employees, defence personnel, and pensioners. The single number that decides your new pay is the fitment factor: multiply your current basic pay by it and you have your projected revised basic. The 7th CPC used 2.57; projections for the 8th range from 1.92 to 3.0, and no official factor has been announced yet.

The 8th Pay Commission Salary Calculator below runs that projection honestly. It applies the fitment factor you choose to your current basic pay, adds HRA at your city class rate, and shows the increase, because most calculators online quietly present one speculative factor as fact. The defaults use the 7th CPC’s 2.57 factor on the Level-1 minimum of ₹18,000, which projects to ₹46,260.

Quick Answer

Quick answer: Revised basic pay = current basic pay × fitment factor. At the 7th CPC's 2.57 factor, the Level-1 minimum of ₹18,000 becomes ₹46,260, and with 30% HRA the projected monthly gross is ₹60,138 before transport allowance. No official 8th CPC fitment factor has been announced; published projections range from 1.92 (₹34,560) to 3.0 (₹54,000) on the same ₹18,000 base. DA resets to 0% when the new pay is implemented, so the real gross-pay hike is smaller than the factor suggests.

Key takeaways

  • The 8th CPC was constituted on 3 November 2025; its report is due within 18 months. Nothing is official until the report is accepted and notified.
  • Fitment factor is the whole game: 1.92 turns ₹18,000 into ₹34,560; 2.57 into ₹46,260; 3.0 into ₹54,000.
  • DA resets to 0% on the new basic, so compare gross-to-gross, not factor-to-factor.
  • HRA follows the new basic at 30%/20%/10% for X/Y/Z city classes under the existing structure.

The fitment factor is the whole story

Every pay commission boils down to one multiplier. The fitment factor converts your existing basic pay into the new pay matrix in a single step, and the 6th and 7th commissions both used a uniform factor across all levels, which is why employees could predict their revised pay with a pocket calculator. The 7th CPC's factor was 2.57, applied to the 6th CPC pay bands to produce the 2016 matrix.

For the 8th CPC, the factor is the most closely watched open question. Analyst projections cluster in a wide band: the low end around 1.92 to 2.08 (derived from the DA already accumulated on the 7th CPC basic), the middle around 2.28 to 2.57, and staff-side demands up to 2.86 or 3.0. The calculator above defaults to 2.57 because it is the last officially used factor, not because it is the expected one. Change it and watch the projection move; that range is the honest answer until the commission reports.

How the calculator builds your projected salary

The projection has three layers, and the calculator applies them in order:

1

Revised basic = current basic × fitment factor. This is the core of every 8th CPC projection online. ₹44,900 at Level 7 becomes ₹1,15,393 at a 2.57 factor.

2

HRA = revised basic × city rate. X-class cities 30%, Y-class 20%, Z-class 10%. HRA is always computed on the new basic, which is why it jumps with the factor.

3

Gross = revised basic + HRA + transport allowance. DA restarts at 0% on the new basic, so it contributes nothing on day one. That is the number to compare against your current gross.

The formulas: Revised basic = current basic × fitment factor (rounded). HRA = revised basic × 0.30 / 0.20 / 0.10 by city class. Projected gross = revised basic + HRA + transport allowance, with DA at 0%. Basic-pay hike % = (revised − current) ÷ current × 100.

Worked example, checked against this exact tool

Enter the pre-filled defaults (₹18,000 basic, 2.57 factor, X-class HRA, no transport allowance) and click Calculate. Here is what the tool returns, verified against the underlying code:

FigureValue
Current basic pay₹18,000
Revised basic (× 2.57)₹46,260
HRA at 30%₹13,878
Projected monthly gross₹60,138
Basic pay increase+₹28,260 (+157.0%)

Now change the fitment factor to 1.92, the low-end projection. The revised basic becomes ₹34,560, HRA ₹10,368, and gross ₹44,928. At 3.0 the basic is ₹54,000 with ₹16,200 HRA for a ₹70,200 gross. The calculator makes the sensitivity obvious: every 0.1 of fitment factor is worth ₹1,800 a month on the Level-1 basic.

What the projections look like at every fitment factor

Because no factor is official, the responsible way to present the 8th CPC is as a range. Here is the Level-1 minimum (₹18,000) at the six factors the calculator offers:

Fitment factorRevised basicHRA (30%)Projected grossSource of projection
1.92₹34,560₹10,368₹44,928Low-end analyst projection
2.08₹37,440₹11,232₹48,672Low-end analyst projection
2.28₹41,040₹12,312₹53,352Mid-range projection
2.57₹46,260₹13,878₹60,1387th CPC factor, for reference
2.86₹51,480₹15,444₹66,924Staff-side demand range
3.00₹54,000₹16,200₹70,200High-end demand

The 1.92 floor is not arbitrary: with DA on the 7th CPC basic running around 60%, the effective pay is already 1.6 times basic, so a factor below that would be a pay cut in real terms. That arithmetic is why serious projections start at 1.92. Once your projected gross is in hand, plan what to do with the raise: parking the increase in the 80/20 salary budget keeps lifestyle inflation from eating the whole hike.

DA resets to zero: why your raise is smaller than the factor

The most misunderstood part of every pay commission is the Dearness Allowance reset. DA compensates for inflation on top of basic pay, and when a new commission is implemented, the accumulated DA is merged into the new basic and the DA clock restarts at 0%. A 2.57 factor does not mean your take-home rises 157%: your current gross already includes roughly 60% DA on the old basic.

Work it through for Level 1. Today: ₹18,000 basic + ~₹10,800 DA (60%) + ₹5,400 HRA (30% of basic) = about ₹34,200 before transport allowance. After implementation at 2.57: ₹46,260 basic + ₹0 DA + ₹13,878 HRA = ₹60,138. The real gross hike is about 76%, not 157%. Still life-changing, but the factor alone overstates it, and any calculator that multiplies your current gross by the fitment factor is double-counting the DA.

Watch for arrears. The 8th CPC's effect is "normally expected" from 1 January 2026, but the report and government notification will take months. If implementation lags the effective date, the difference is paid as arrears, a lump sum that is fully taxable in the year of receipt. Do not spend it twice.

Level-wise projections at the 2.57 reference factor

The pay matrix has 18 levels. Here is what a uniform 2.57 factor does to representative levels, using the 7th CPC basic as the base:

Level7th CPC basicProjected 8th CPC basic (×2.57)
Level 1₹18,000₹46,260
Level 3₹21,700₹55,769
Level 7₹44,900₹1,15,393
Level 10₹56,100₹1,44,177
Level 13₹1,23,100₹3,16,367
Level 18₹2,50,000₹6,42,500

These are illustrative, not official: the real matrix will have cell-by-cell values set by the commission, and increments within a level will not be perfectly uniform. Defence personnel should add Military Service Pay and field allowances on top, which civilian calculators do not model.

What competing calculators get wrong

We checked the top-ranking 8th CPC calculators before writing this page. The topic attracts speculation, and the tools reflect it.

One factor presented as fact. The most common failure is a calculator hard-coded to a single fitment factor, often 2.57 or 1.92, with no way to change it and no disclosure that the factor is speculative. A projection is only honest if you can see the range. This page offers six factors and labels every output illustrative.

DA double-counting. Several calculators multiply the current gross (which already includes DA) by the fitment factor, inflating the projection by roughly 60%. The correct method applies the factor to basic pay only, then rebuilds allowances on the new basic with DA at zero.

No HRA or city distinction. A surprising number of tools show only the revised basic and stop, leaving a third of the pay packet unmodeled. HRA at 30% of the new basic is ₹13,878 on the Level-1 projection: too large to omit.

Stale "expected 2026" framing. Older pages still describe the commission as merely proposed. It was constituted on 3 November 2025 with an 18-month reporting window. This page uses the confirmed timeline.

Frequently asked questions

No. As of October 2026 the commission has not submitted its report and no official factor exists. Published projections range from 1.92 to 3.0. Any calculator or table that presents one number without calling it a projection is speculating.

It depends on the fitment factor: ₹18,000 becomes ₹34,560 at 1.92, ₹46,260 at 2.57, and ₹54,000 at 3.0. The low-end 1.92 figure already reflects the DA accumulated on the current basic, which is why projections cluster between ₹34,560 and ₹54,000.

The commission was constituted on 3 November 2025 and must report within 18 months. The effect is normally expected from 1 January 2026 based on past practice, but the actual date depends on when the government accepts the report and notifies the new pay matrix. Arrears would cover any gap.

DA resets to 0% on the new basic pay at implementation. The accumulated DA is effectively merged into the revised basic through the fitment factor. This is why the real gross-pay hike (around 76% at 2.57 for Level 1) is much smaller than the factor (157%) suggests.

Most states adopt central pay commission recommendations with a lag of 6 to 24 months, depending on state finances. The structure is the same (basic × factor, then DA, HRA, TA), so the calculator works for state employees too; only the timeline and the exact factor adopted may differ.

Pension is typically 50% of the last basic pay, so it rises with the fitment factor: a ₹46,260 revised basic implies about ₹23,130 monthly pension at 2.57. Past commissions delivered 20% to 30% average pension hikes. Family pension and gratuity limits are revised in the same notification.

The 7th CPC used a uniform 2.57 factor. For the 8th, no factor is fixed; projections range from 1.92 to 3.0, with staff associations demanding the higher end and analysts noting the DA-adjusted floor near 1.92. The commission may also revisit allowances and the pay matrix structure, not just the multiplier.
