Ti64 Calculator

Published onAugust 7, 2025 Updated onOctober 23, 2026 10:34 pm

A 500-gram Ti-6Al-4V part at a $65 per kilogram quote costs $32.50 in raw material: half a kilogram times the per-kilo price. This calculator runs that exact math for any mass and any quote, so you can budget titanium stock before you commit to a supplier. Calculator Zilo is not affiliated with any titanium supplier or standards body; Ti-6Al-4V (commonly called Grade 5) is a generic alloy-grade designation. And a naming note up front: Ti-64 here means the titanium alloy, not Texas Instruments’ TI line of calculators and not the “TI” esports tournament.

Estimates raw material cost only. Machining, finishing, certification, tax and shipping are not included. Enter zero, a negative number or a non-numeric value and the calculator asks for valid positive values instead of guessing.

Quick Answer

A 500-gram Ti-6Al-4V part at $65 per kilogram costs $32.50 in raw material. The math is (500 ÷ 1,000) × 65. Titanium alloy is sold by weight, so every quote reduces to mass in kilograms times the per-kilo price. Type your own mass and quote into the calculator above for your exact figure.

Key takeaways

  • Ti64 (Ti-6Al-4V) is a generic alloy-grade name, not a brand: 90% titanium, 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, commonly called Grade 5.
  • Material cost = (mass in grams ÷ 1,000) × price per kilogram. The calculator divides by 1,000 for you.
  • Expect roughly $25 to $80 per kilogram for bar and sheet in small lots in 2026; mill-direct and powder prices sit in different bands.
  • The number covers raw material only. Machining, certification, tax and shipping sit on top, sometimes larger than the metal itself.

How to use the Ti64 calculator

Weigh your part or stock in grams and enter that number in the first field. Enter your supplier's per-kilogram quote in the second field, then click Calculate cost. The result shows the material cost to two decimals and copies the same figure into the Total cost field for easy pasting into a quote. If you only know the part's volume, multiply it by the alloy density of 4.43 g/cm³ to get the mass first. A steel plate mass calculator shows the same volume-times-density pattern used across metals, though the density constant differs by alloy.

The Ti64 cost formula

Suppliers price titanium alloy by weight, so the formula is one division and one multiplication:

Total cost = (Mass in grams ÷ 1,000) × Cost per kilogram

The division converts grams to kilograms because quotes are per kilogram. That is the whole model: no grade multiplier, no processing factor, no hidden terms. Anything beyond raw stock, such as the hours a CNC mill spends cutting it, is a separate cost you add yourself.

Worked example: the 500-gram aerospace part

A bracket design calls for 500 grams of Ti-6Al-4V, and the supplier quotes $65 per kilogram for annealed bar stock.

Step by step

  1. Convert the mass: 500 ÷ 1,000 = 0.5 kg
  2. Multiply by the quote: 0.5 × $65 = $32.50

Enter 500 and 65 in the calculator and it returns exactly $32.50. A second check: 250 grams at the same quote is 0.25 × 65 = $16.25. Like other metals priced by weight, a silver calculator or gold price per ounce calculator runs the same weight-times-price structure, just with troy ounces instead of grams.

What Ti-6Al-4V actually is

Ti64 is shorthand for Ti-6Al-4V: titanium alloyed with 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium, the balance titanium. It carries the industry names Grade 5 and UNS R56400, and it accounts for roughly half of all titanium alloy used worldwide, mostly in aerospace, medical implants, and high-performance engineering. Its annealed density is 4.43 g/cm³, tensile strength around 895 to 950 MPa, and it is an alpha-beta alloy, which is why it machines and heat-treats differently from commercially pure grades.

GradeCompositionDensityTypical use

Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI)Same, extra-low interstitials4.43 g/cm³Implantable medical devices, fracture-critical parts

Where the per-kilogram price comes from in 2026

There is no single titanium price. Raw sponge trades near $6 to $9 per kilogram, while the bar or sheet you actually buy carries melting, rolling, certification, and distributor margin on top. That is why a quote can be $30 per kilogram from one mill and $70 from a small-lot retailer for the same nominal grade. The table below shows the bands seen across 2026 market reporting.

Material tier2026 price bandWhat you get
Sponge / ingot (mill level)~$6 to $35/kgRaw material; not a finished product
Bar, sheet, plate (small-lot retail)~$25 to $80/kgCut stock from metal distributors
Spherical powder (3D printing)~$250 to $600/kgAdditive-manufacturing feedstock

Three things move your quote inside the retail band: the form (sheet costs more per kilo than bar), the certification (aerospace traceability paperwork adds cost), and the order size (a 10 kg mill order prices far below a single cut piece). When a quote lands well above $80 per kilogram, ask which of the three is driving it. Offcuts have a second life too: titanium turnings and solids carry real resale value, which a scrap rate calculator can help you estimate before you sell the bin.

What competing calculators miss

The closest rival tool adds a grade selector, processing-type multipliers, and a quantity field, then reports material cost, processing cost, and cost per unit. It is the richer tool, but its grade premium (a fixed 1.35 multiplier for Grade 5) and processing multipliers are the author's own estimates, not market data, and the page never says so. Manufacturing-cost guides publish the fuller formula, material plus post-processing plus shipping, but give you no tool at all. This page takes the opposite stance: the tool computes exactly one honest number, the raw material cost, prints the formula with no hidden multipliers, and tells you plainly that everything else is yours to add.

Working in pounds or ounces

The calculator takes grams because most scales and most supplier cut-sheets speak grams for small parts. Convert first with these exact factors, then enter the gram figure.

FromMultiply byExample
Pounds (lb)453.5922 lb = 907.18 g
Ounces (oz)28.34958 oz = 226.80 g
Kilograms (kg)1,0000.5 kg = 500 g

What this number does not include

Treat the result as a material budget line, not a project quote. It excludes machining time (titanium's poor thermal conductivity makes it slow and tool-hungry to cut), surface finishing and heat treatment, material certification paperwork, shipping, tax, and any scrap or kerf loss from cutting your part out of larger stock. A common shop practice is to add 10 to 30% to the raw mass for cutting waste before costing, then run that inflated mass through the calculator. The old page claimed the tool handles bulk orders and procurement systems; it does not, and this rewrite drops those claims. It multiplies two numbers, accurately.

Frequently asked questions

Ti64 is shorthand for Ti-6Al-4V, a titanium alloy of 90% titanium, 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. It is also sold as Grade 5 (UNS R56400) and is the most widely used titanium alloy in the world, mainly in aerospace, medical implants and high-performance engineering.

Annealed Ti-6Al-4V has a density of 4.43 grams per cubic centimetre, about 56% of steel's density. If you know a part's volume, multiply by 4.43 to get its mass in grams, then enter that figure in the calculator.

Small-lot bar and sheet typically runs $25 to $80 per kilogram from metal distributors, with mill-direct orders cheaper and aerospace-certified stock dearer. Raw sponge trades far lower (about $6 to $9 per kilogram) and spherical 3D-printing powder far higher ($250 to $600 per kilogram). Always use your supplier's actual quote for your form and order size.

Three things push quotes up: the product form (sheet and precision-cut pieces cost more per kilo than bar), material certification and traceability paperwork for aerospace or medical grades, and small order size (a single cut piece carries far more margin than a 10 kg mill order). Ask the supplier which factor is driving the price.

The calculator takes grams only. Convert first: multiply pounds by 453.592 or ounces by 28.3495, then enter the gram result. For example, 2 pounds is 907.18 grams.

No. The result is the raw material cost only. Machining time, finishing, heat treatment, certification paperwork, tax and shipping are separate, and on small titanium parts the machining can cost more than the metal. Add a cutting-waste allowance of 10 to 30% to the mass before costing if you are cutting parts from larger stock.

No. Commercially pure grades (Grade 1 through 4) are 99% or more titanium and are softer and more formable. Ti-6Al-4V is an alloy: the aluminum and vanadium roughly double the strength, which is why it dominates structural and aerospace use while pure grades serve chemical and marine parts.

No. Calculator Zilo is not affiliated with any titanium supplier, mill or standards body. Ti-6Al-4V is a generic alloy-grade designation, and prices here are market bands for estimating, not quotes from any vendor.
